1 William Street, Brisbane’s landmark commercial tower
1 William Street, the 46-storey landmark commercial tower is the home to Queensland Government and public service. Completed in October of 2016, it is a new era for commercial buildings in Australia. Positioned on the banks of the Brisbane River, the commercial tower is a landmark on the Brisbane skyline. Featuring lush subtropical sky gardens, 360 degree views and a central core that maximises the Queensland sun.
The design vision for this commercial tower centres around the concept of a ‘tower within a garden’. Every floor of 1 William Street has a Queensland Flora or Fauna theme which acknowledges the topography and natural landscape of Australia. Encouraging the environment to dominate the experience of the building, 1 William Street offers its workers a much needed respite from the city. To achieve this urban feature, the project needed landscaping materials to create both a strong visual appeal and sustainable environment.
Connect Truckers was commissioned by Landscape Solutions Pty Ltd to assist during the landscaping stage of this ambitious project. Supplying over 1000m3 of custom blended podium soil, decorative pebbles, mulch and other custom soil blends for the lush urban gardens. Connect Truckers was privileged to work with a winning tender on a custom soil, which was designed and developed to meet the specifications suitable for the construction of podium gardens. And now, three years on we are very proud to say that the gardens are still thriving.
To transport this amount of material, Connect Truckers used Bulka Bags. Bulka Bags are an incredibly efficient means of transport, in terms of storage, movement and delivery on tight urban jobs. They are perfect for awkward or restricted job-sites as they can be transported easily by crane or forklift. The Bulka Bags worked perfectly on site at 1 William Street, as there was a lot of different parties working on site at once. Because of the location of the job in the middle of the Brisbane CBD, Connect Truckers delivered most of the product at night in order to minimise disruption.
Now, 1 William Street is as much a part of Brisbane as the river. Providing both an innovative workplace, and a public realm that connects the Brisbane CBD to the river.
In February 2018, 1 William Street was awarded a 6 Green Star-certified rating by the Green Building Council of Australia.
Connect Truckers was honoured to work on such an integral part of Brisbane City’s skyline and are pleased that the urban environment is exceeding the design vision.
